Này các người Kâlâma, đừng tin vì nghe nói lại, đừng tin vì theo phong tục, đừng tin vì nghe tin đồn, đừng tin vì kinh điển truyền tụng, đừng tin vì lý luận, đừng tin vì công thức, đừng tin vì có suy tư đầy đủ về những dữ kiện, đừng tin vì có thẩm sát và chấp nhận lý thuyết, đừng tin vì thấy thích hợp, đừng tin vì Sa môn là thầy mình.            Nhưng này các người Kâlâma, khi nào các người tự biết rõ : Các pháp này là thiện,các pháp này là không đáng chê, các pháp này được người trí khen ngợi, các pháp này nếu thực hiện và chấp nhận thì dẫn đến hạnh phúc an vui, thời này các người Kâlâma, các người hãy đạt đến và an trú (Kinh Kâlâma)

Ecoutez, Kalama, ne vous laissez pas guider par des rapports, par la tradition ou par ce que vous avez entendu dire. Ne vous laissez pas guider par l'autorité des textes religieux, ni par la simple logique ou l'inférence, ni par les apparences, ni par le plaisir de spéculer sur des opinions, ni par les vraisemblances possibles, ni par la pensée "Il est notre Maitre".          Mais, Kalama, (...) lorsque, par vous-mêmes vous savez que certaines choses sont favorables (kusala) et bonnes, alors, acceptez-les et suivez-les (Kālāma Sutta)

Do not go upon what has been acquired by repeated hearing; nor upon tradition; nor upon rumor; nor upon what is in a scripture; nor upon surmise; nor upon an axiom; nor upon special reasoning; nor upon a bias towards a notion that has been pondered over; nor upon another's seeming authority; nor upon consideration, « The monk is our teacher."            Kālāmas, when you yourselves know: "These things are good; these things are not blamable; these things are praised by the wise; undertaken and observed, these things lead to benefit and happiness," enter on and abide in them. . .  (Kālāma Sutta)
